Getting the #1 result, on page 1 of google is hard. It takes hard work, strategy, an understanding of SEO and how to implement it. SEO strategies for beginners will help build the foundation and understanding of SEO. I will provide actionable steps you can take today without overwhelm.

Here are my SEO Strategies for Beginners:

Optimized Page Titles and Meta Descriptions

The page title should accurately describe the content, be descriptive and brief. If there are words you are trying to rank for, make sure to add them. Always think of the words your customer is using to search online. Below is an example of an optimized title. The blog post is about how to drive traffic to your website.

As an example, below is a search result for best subscription dog boxes.

Title Tag Checklist

• All titles need to be unique per page
• The length should be no more than 60 characters
• The title tag should contain target keywords

Meta Descriptions

A meta description is the short paragraph of text under the URL, used as a preview in the search results. You have 160 characters here. Therefore, be descriptive and make it appealing so your users will click to open the link. Google will use it when trying to understand what your page is about.

Moreover, it's important to include your keywords in the meta description. Make it appealing to actual readers that are skimming the page results.

Below is an example of a meta description and title for my blog post, How I created and Launched a Subscription Box Business. As you can see, both the title and description describe my blog. I have purposely included keywords I want to rank for within the subscription box niche.

Optimize your URL's

While most users will pay little attention to your URLs, they are important for your basic SEO. Sometimes websites will produce a generic URL for your page but you can always update it within your system.

Google wants your website to have readable and logical URL structures. The URL should describe what the content is about while being as short as possible. Use keywords relevant to your content, while using the words that your ideal customer would search for.

For example, if you are writing about the best dog subscription boxes, your URL could look something like this. yourdomain.com/best-dog-subscription-boxes

Keyword Research

The rule of thumb is that you want to write about content your ideal customer is searching for.

Using the right keywords is essential! For instance, you also want to focus on keywords that your customers are actually searching for. You might rank number one for a specific keyword, but if no one is searching for that you will end up with zero people visiting your site.

There are plenty of tools you can try out to do basic keyword research. As a result, these tools will tell you the monthly volume of what people are searching for on google. SEMRush, Moz, SEOQuake are a few popular options.

Image Optimization

Optimized Image: The titles of your images should describe what the image is. I see this mistake constantly, where people save images with a generic title that is not searchable, like 3665tgg.jpb.

Alt Text

Like titling your images correctly, alt text is something that many people skip. Don't make the mistake, it's so key for SEO results.

On each image you add to your website/blog etc, you can edit the photo to add alt text. Use this to describe the image and feel free to throw in relevant key words.

Producing Content Blog/Podcast

One of the most things google loves to see is new, fresh and consistent content. I cant stress enough the importance of choosing ONE channel and producing consistent content. Blogging is the easiest option and one you should absolutely incorporate into your content and marketing strategy.

Above all, blogging can sound overwhelming but it works. It's one tool that changed the game for me when I had The Dapper Dog Box. There are endless things you can write content about that your ideal customer wants to know and read about.

Backlinks

Backlinks are when one website links to another website. The link to an external website is a backlink. Backlinks to your website are a signal to search engines that others vouch for your content. As a way to get high quality add valuable backlinks, I signed up with an affiliate marketing platform called Sharesale.
